UPDATED and working nicely: 7.11.2016

A lot of people ask us for a good VPS that they can use for their copy of Mass Planner, if you want to keep your account posting 24/7 but don’t want to keep your computer on all day long the easy solution is to use a Windows VPS and move Mass Planner on that server.

Most of you are asking for a cheap VPS and most of you use Mass Planner with one or two accounts so this will be the best solution for you – a free Windows VPS that you can use for a year at 0 costs. It’s not very powerful but it’s decent enough and Mass Planner will run on it with a couple of accounts quite well.

free Windows-Server-2012

This is not for people that need a powerful machine and use a lot of accounts, for that you will need a better server and there are a lot of places where you can get that online, you should know better if you’re at that level so we’re not going to get into that.

In this article we’re going to cover the following:

  1. How to get a free windows VPS for 1 year
  2. How to connect to your VPS using remote desktop on Windows
  3. How to connect to your VPS using remote desktop on Mac OS X
  4. How to use your local drive in remote connections(or how to copy data from your PC to the VPS)
  5. How to use your local drives in remote connections(or how to copy data from your Mac OS X to the VPS)
  6. How to install and start using Mass Planner on your new VPS
  7. How to disable IE Enhanced Security in Windows Server 2012
  8. How to get notifications when you go over the limits of your free Amazon VPS
  9. Final notes

So let’s get started:

1. How to get a free windows vps for 1 year

Some of you might know but most of you probably don’t – Amazon offers everybody that wants to test their services a free vps for a year. They make it a little hard to navigate through all their settings and signup pages so here’s a short tutorial on how to do it fast and easy.

Here is what you will need:

  • a credit card, it will not be billed and the vps is free but they require you to enter one
  • a telephone number – they will call to verify your identity(call is automated not human)
  • 5-15 minutes of your time depending on how fast you are filling up forms and following instructions.

Here is what you will get:

  • 1Gb of RAM
  • 30Gb Hdd ( you’ll have around 11Gb free after the OS is installed)
  • 1 virtual processor at 2.49Ghz
  • OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
  • 1GB monthly free traffic ( if you go over they will charge you $0.12 per 1Gb which is almost free as well πŸ™‚ )

As you can see, it’s not much but it’s pretty decent, it’s a lot better than my first computer ( though that was a while back). What’s most important is that it’s free for a year and it will suffice for any day-to-day post scheduling.

If you want to go ahead and get your own server like the one above, just go over to Amazon at : http://aws.amazon.com/free/. You will see this server being referred to as AWS account( it means Amazon Web Services account).

You can read a lot more information on their page about the free plan, you can go ahead and read that or if you just simply want to continue, click the yellow “Get started today” button that looks like this :

get your free vps from amazon

Now you will be taken to the signup page for the AWS service, go ahead and create a new account by selecting “I am a new user” and entering your email like this:

signing up for amazon aws

After filing in the above click the yellow “Sign in using our secure server” button and you will be taken to another form to complete the signup process.

Amazon AWS login credentials

Go ahead and fill these too with your name, email as before and select a new password. After you’re done click the “Create account” button and you will be redirected to a page that will ask for your details( the AWS console signup page). You will need to fill this up in order to proceed to the next step. You can choose between a Company or a Personal account, I went for a Personal one.

filling-in-the-details-of-your-aws-account

Fill everything up correctly, don’t make stuff up but fill in your real name and address as you will also have to enter your credit card information later and if they don’t match you might get denied and done all this for nothing. So fill in your Full name, company( if any), select your country, enter address, city, state, postal code, phone number, the security code and finally check the AWS customer agreement. After everything is filled in nicely click the Create Account and Continue button. You will be redirected to the page where you need to enter your credit card details:

adding-you-payment-information-to-your-aws-account

Fill in your credit card number and select the expiration date. Enter you name as before, either leave the address that you already entered(as I did) or select a new one, after that press “Continue”. You will be redirected to the Identity verification step:

amazon-aws-identity-verification-step

Now they want to verify that you are who you say you are so you are going to get an automated call from Amazon and will need to enter the provided PIN number in order to proceed. Make sure again that you entered your phone number correctly, have your telephone close by and click the “Call me now” yellow button.

You should immediately receive a call from Amazon, they will also display a PIN number on your computer screen you will need to enter that PIN number on your telephone keypad or just say it loud one digit at a time. If/When successful you will receive a message on your screen stating that your identity verification is complete:

aws identity verification completeNow just click the “Continue to select your Support Plan” button. You will need to select the support plan for your VPS:

choose aws support plan

This one should be quite simple, if Basic(Free) is already selected leave it like this, if something else is selected just select Basic(Free) and click Continue and you finally have your Amazon Web Services account:

welcome-to-amazon-web-services-message

Congratulations, you have you AWS account, now all you need to do is set up your Windows VPS. In order to do that just click on the yellow “Sign in to the Console”

signing-in-to-your-aws-management-console

At this point you might be prompted to enter your AWS password again, the one that we created a few steps above when we started. Go ahead and enter that and login again to the AWS management console. Don’t mind all the services amazon is providing here, there are a lot of them and someone that is new to this might feel a little lost, here’s how the management console looks like:

choosing-amazon-ec2-service

Again, don’t mind them all, just click on EC2(where the red arrow points to, if you hover it will say – Virtual Servers in the Cloud), should be the first one under “Compute”. You will be taken to another screen that again is full with a lot of information that might be overwhelming ( Amazon did not make this easy at all for beginners πŸ™‚ ).

create your amazon vps

Just click the blue “Launch Instance” button and you will be redirected to a page where you will need to choose what operating system to install on your VPS:

choosing-what-windows-to-install-on-your-amazon-ec2-vps

As you can see there are several choices of operating systems, if you are doing this in order to use it with other software at this point you can choose either linux or windows. As we have created this tutorial to use a Windows VPS with Mass Planner ( as it does not currently work on linux) we’ll be continuing by choosing “Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Base”.

NOTE: Whatever you do, DO NOT choose windows server 2008. Mass Planner will not work with it as it needs .net 3.5 and you cannot install that on windows 2008.

As there are 31 items ( at the moment) in the list provided by Amazon, you will have to scroll down until you find this exact operating system. It also has to say “Free tier eligible” in the left corner. In order to proceed click the blue “Select” button that’s located to the right of the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Base item:

select a windows vps installation

Now you will be taken through a couple of steps in order to select the specs of your new VPS. In order to keep it free, always select the one that has the green “Free tire eligible” text :

choosing-your-t2-micro-ec2-amazon-vps

It should already be selected, if not select the second item, General purpose t2 micro which is the only one that is free. Now, you can either go through the rest of the steps and see what each offers you(really not necessary unless you really know what you are doing, or just simply click the blue “Review and Launch” and jump to the end:

click the review and launch button

If you’ve pressed the Review and Launch button you should be at step 7, Review instance launch, they’re just giving you a lot more information about the server, you can skip everything and click the blue “Launch” button in the bottom right corner, which I suggest you do.

aws review instance launch

You will be prompted to select a new key pair or create one. This is very important as you will use this file in order to get the password for your VPS, so make sure you put it somewhere safe. It will also be useful in case you loose your password and need to login to your VPS.

As you have just created a new account you won’t have one already, so select from the dropdown box “Create a new key pair” and enter a name for it.

creating a new key pair fo aws vps

After entering the name for your key pair click on “download key pair” and your browser should prompt you to download a new file to your computer, it will be named as the name you gave it above, without spaces and with a .pem extension. Save it somewhere on your computer and keep it safe just in case.

This is a very important step, as without this file you won’t be able to connect to your VPS, so if your browser does not prompt you to download this file make sure you have any plugin that might block it disabled, and make sure to save the file on your computer, not open it.

Now the blue “Launch instances” button should be usable, so click it and after a little setup wait time you should receive a message that your new instance is launching:

aws vps instance launched

You might also notice a “Get notified of estimated charges” notification on this screen. Later you can set this up so you get notified if your VPS gets over the free limits.

Click on the blue button and you will be taken back to the AWS console where your newly created VPS instance will be listed, it should look something like this :

lists of your vps instances

You will see your VPS with the status of running. Notice the Connect button above it, click that and another window should appear with instructions on how to connect to your VPS. It looks like this:

connect to your amazon VPSI know it’s been a long signup but we’re almost there and the good news is you only have to do this once for a whole year of free VPS.

First, click on “Download Remote Desktop File” and save that file somewhere on your computer, it’s what you will use to connect to your VPS. Next, you will need a password so click the Get Password button. You will now need to provide the Key Pair that you created earlier in order to get your password:

get your amazon vps password

Either upload your .pem file or copy its content in the provided field and click decrypt password. As soon as you do you should see your VPS password, write it down somwhere as that’s what you’ll use every time you connect to your VPS.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this and I think you were all waiting for this: You’re done. Now you have your free Windows VPS up and running for a whole year, you have your .rdp file which you will be using to connect to it and you have your password. In case you used a VPS before you should now know how to proceed. In case this is your first time, just read on.

Also I just want to re-iterate, this was a one time setup process, from now on, you have your VPS ready and running at all times, all you need to do is connect to it.

2. How to connect to your VPS using remote desktop

Connecting to your newly created VPS through remote desktop is quite simple, if you did not have the .rdp file that you downloaded earlier you would have had to create your connection manually and enter the ip of your vps. This is not the case though, just double click the .rdp file, the name should be something like the-ip-of-the-vps.rdp ( something like 192.168.1.1.rdpΒ  …just an example). When you double click it for the first time something like this will appear:

connecting to your amazon vps

Make sure to check the “Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer” checkbox so you don’t need to do this every time and skip an extra step and click “Connect”. Now you will be presented with the login screen where you need to enter your password:

enter your amazon vps credentials 2

Enter you password under Administrator and click ok. Also check the “Remember my credentials” checkbox underneath so you don’t need to enter your password every time. After that click OK. Again, the first time you will do this you will have an extra window appear :

accept the certificate from amazon vps connection

Just check the “Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer” checkbox and click Yes and this will never show up again. Once you click Yes, you will enter you VPS. You are now connected to your new Windows VPS machine and can do anything you want with it. Just use it as you would use any other computer, install programs on it. It will run 24/7 and you don’t need to worry about anything. By the way, congratulations for getting your very own free windows vps, you deserver it after all this work!

Again, you will have to do all these steps only once when you first set everything up, after that you will only need to double click your .rdp file and you will be automatically logged in to your VPS, so just place that file somewhere where you can easily access it like your desktop.

3.How to connect to your VPS using remote desktop on Mac OS X

If you followed the above tutorial, you now have your .rdp file which you will be using to connect to the windows VPS. However you are on Mac and things will be a little different, though not so much.

First of all you will need to install a remote desktop connection client, I installed Microsoft Remote Desktop which is easy to use and it’s free (you can find it in the App Store), here’s now it should look like :

microsoft remote desktop app for max os x

After you install the application you need to create your connection. If you have the .rdp file at hand and so you don’t waste time setting everything up manually, just import it using the β€œImport” option in the menu bar:

importing the rdp file in remote desktop in mac os x

In case you did not have the .rdp file, you had to manually create your connection, by entering the ip of your VPS, the user name and password as show below:

creating a remote desktop connection in mac os x

As long as we’re on this screen let’s make a few more tweaks too. If you imported the .rdp file, edit the imported connection and make sure you add the password (so you don’t have to enter it every time you connect) and choose the optimal resolution depending on your screen. Make sure to save everything and you are done setting everything up.

Once the configuration is done, you just have to double click on your newly created connection and you can start massplanning.

double click the remote desktop connection

4. How to use your local drives in remote connections(or how to copy data from your PC to the VPS)

Depending on what you want to setup on your VPS you might find the need of using one of your local drives in remote desktop connections. This will help move data from your computer to the VPS like installers, folders with posts or the whole massplanner folder if you already had that running on your computer. It’s not a hard task although it’s a little hidden and not everybody know that this can be done.

Ok, so let’s get started, right click on your amazon vpsΒ  .rdp file and select edit, the remote connection options should show up like this :

remote connections options

Here click on Local Resources, and on that tab, at the bottom under Local Devices and resources click More..

remote connections options local resources

Now click on the + sign besides Drives and all your local drives will show up. Either select a few of them that you want to make available when you connect to the VPS or just select them all. Your drives are available on the VPS only when you are connected and only one person can connect at a time so your data is completely safe. After selecting one or more drives, click on OK. will you get back to the Local resources tab, now you need to save the changes that you made to the remote connection so go back to the General tab and click Save.

select all drives within remote desktop connection

After this you can connect as you would normally do and you will notice in My computer that you also have access to your local drive when you’re inside your VPS.

If you want to move Mass Planner to your VPS you will find the files in : c:\Users\youruser\AppData\Roaming\MassPlanner\ – change youruser with the user you are using on your computer. Here are the full instructions about that.

5. How to use your local drives in remote connections(or how to copy data from your Mac OS X to the VPS)

If you want to share folders with files between your Mac and your new VPS machine, you just have to follow these simple steps:

1. First, open the Microsoft Remote Desktop application that you installed in the previous step.

You will see your previously created connection, like in the picture below:

microsoft remote desktop connection

2. Right-click on your connection and choose Edit

Or you can select your VPS connection and click on the Edit button in the menu. The Edit window will appear with the 3 tabs: General, Session and Redirection.

Mac OS add local folder to VPS

3. Click on the Redirection tab and add a local folder

From the Redirection tab, click on the “+” button, and you will be able to add a new local folder to your VPS. You just have to give it a name and select the target folder by entering the Path in the corresponding field (or simply choose Browse and select the wanted folder).

4. See your shared folder in the VPS machine

Now you can close the Edit window, and go ahead and double-click on the VPS connection to connect. Here, open the File Explorer and, in the Devices and Drivers section, you will see the selected folder form your Mac machine.

See local Mac folder on VPS

Now you just have to repeat these steps for all the folders you need for your work and you’re all set.

6. How to install and start using Mass Planner on your new VPS.

Installing Mass Planner or the vps is the same as installing it on any Windows based computer, all you need to do is double click the installer and you will be guided through the steps that you need to take before installing it. In order to get the installer on your VPS either use your local drives on your VPS as explained in the previous step or just download the installer directly on your server. In case you don’t have the instructions email that you received when subscribing to Mass Planner at hand, here’s a quick link to the installer.

installing mass planner on your vps

After downloading the installed on your VPS double click it and start the installation process, click next, next a couple of time and it should be installed, after that all is left for you to do is enter your credentials and start using it as you would use it on your own computer. It will be always running, 24/7 so you can set it up and let it post for you. Just use the remote desktop connection to check up on it from time to time to see everything is in order.

You should already know how to use Mass Planner if you reached this point, however if you’re just starting, the best way to learn to use it is by watching our video tutorials.

NOTE: If you only have one license of Mass Planner and you already had it installed in another location, you will need to login to your online Mass Planner account , go to the “Licenses” page and remove your old computer from there. Once you do this, you will be able to login to Mass Planner on your new VPS. The new location will automatically appear here in your online account and if you ever want to move it again you need to do the same thing.

7. How to disable IE Enhanced Security in Windows Server 2012

This might not seem very important to you, until you open up the only browser available on your new VPSΒ  – Internet Explorer in order to browse the web, access and download stuff and see that it’s not working. For some reason Microsoft thought it would be a smart idea to create the “IE Enhanced Security” which basically blocks you from browsing any website, not even Google is accessible unless you do 5-7 clicks first and add it to the safe list. If you do a search on google then it’s a new website/page and you need to add that as well and so on. Crazy fun, you might decide you can do this for a little while until you download Firefox or a better browser but it’s easier to disable this feature as it’s not really hard but it requires you to know exactly where to look for it.

So let’s get started, first you will need to click on the start menu in the bottom left corner:

click on the start menu on your server

From the popup menu that shows up select Server Manager, should be the first one in the top left corner. After the Server Manager is loaded click on Local Server:

click on local server

After you have clicked on Local server look on the right side now and notice the IE Enhanced security configuration area and that is is turned on:

see the ie enhanced security configuration is on

Click on “On” and more setting will appear where you can actually disable that setting. Here’s what it will look like:

switch off ie enhanced security

As you can see I have already selected Off for Administrators – that’s what you should do too. If you want you can do the same for Users, though if you’re the only one that you’ll be using the VPS that is really not necessary. After selecting Off click on OK. Now you’re back in Server Manager and you will notice that it still says On for the IE security, just press F5 now to refresh the window and it will correctly say Off:

finally ie enhanced security is off

And you’re done. You can close the Server Manager and open IE and see that it works normally now, no more crazy prompts. use it to do your bidding or just download your favorite browser and use that πŸ™‚

8. How to get notifications when you go over the limits and need to pay for your Amazon VPS

In the top right corner you will see your name, click on it and click on “My Account” – this will take you to your account page on Amazon VPS. From there, on the left side select preferences, it should look something like this :

how-to-receive-billing-allerts-for-your-free-amazon-vps

Enable “Receive billing allerts” and click the blue button saying “Save preferences”. After that click on the “Manage billing alerts” link in the middle of the page and you will be directed to another page. At the bottom of this page, notice the “Alarm Summary”

creating-a-billing-alarm-on-amazon-aws

Click on the “Create billing alarm” blue link to create a new alarm that will notify you when you go over the free limit. You’re redirected to the last page where you need to enter the limits:

defining-your-billing-alarm-on-amazon-ec2

All you have to do here is enter choose when you want to be notified. You can leave it at 0 so you get a notification in case you go over the limits or you can put it at $1 -$10 if you accept a little surcharge each month (this totally depends on how much you want to use this VPS). I’ll leave it at $0 for me. After that add your email and click the blue “Create Alarm” button at the lower right of the page.

One last step and you’re done – confirm your email address by clicking on the confirmation link you get in the email that you added. You have 72 hours to do this :

confirming-your-amazon-alert-email

NOTE: What this does is it sends you an email that you’re going over the limit, nothing else. When you get it, you actually need to go to your AWS account and stop your instance for the current month, you can start it again the next month. This is in case you’re going over the limits. Unless you’re using it to post a lot of huge images you should be fine, but it’s good to be prepared, just in case.

9. Final notes.

It took a few steps but now you have a fully functional windows vps that you can use however you want for one whole year. We have tested it with Mass Planner with 2 accounts for Facebook, 2 for Twitter and 2 for Pinterest with a posting rate of 10-30 posts for each account per day and 1-3 tools enabled for each account and it worked without any problems for over a month(it’s still working, we just waited for a month to see everything is in order before making this tutorial).

Depending on how much you use it it should also work for you if you use it moderately without any problems. If you’re looking to post hundreds and hundreds of posts per day with several accounts it might be slower but might still work. If you are looking for even more posting power you should change to a paid vps that provides more resources. We think however that this setup is decent enough for most of our moderate users.

You can also use this server for anything else, if you have other sofware that doesn’t require a lot of resources and that you want to keep online 24/7 this will work. Keep in mind though that there are a few limitation to the server and you have your Credit Card entered, the way Amazon works is that if you go over the traffic limit or any other limit it charges you for the extra usage. Although the rates are really affordable I just wanted to make sure you know about this and don’t over-do use your VPS ( like installing a software that crawls and downloads a lot of big images and that will create a lot of traffic….just an example)

Let us know what you think, is this free server working good for you, do you have another way of getting a good reliable free vps? Did you encounter any problem with the signup process or everything was a breeze and you just want to say thanks for sharing this with you? You can also share this with your friends using the below buttons πŸ˜‰

Thanks for this, exactly what I was looking for, I needed a small vps that I could just use once in a while and couldn’t decide to go for a paid one.

    1. massplanner says:

Glad to hear that, this should meet your requirements well.

  3. thatch r says:

Nice share, thanks a lot! Really didn’t think you could get something like this for free, there are a lot of places offering free vps, tried some of them and most were barely working or not at all, Amazon should be a lot better and for a whole year.

    1. massplanner says:

we’ve tried a few of those too and yes, most are not worth your time, this is why we settled for Amazon, they really offer good quality.

  4. Corbin D says:

Cool share, a vps like this goes for around $10 a month from cheaper companies and up to $15-$17 to more expensive ones so here’s a way to save at least $120 a year if not more.

    1. massplanner says:

Yes, you are quire right, I think we should have named this post VPS giveaway – get your own $120 worth vps free for one year πŸ™‚

Thank you, will definitely give this a try with Mass Planner and see how it works!

    1. massplanner says:

No problem, hope you’ll like it, we’ve tested it with a couple of accounts and it works perfectly. Let us know though!

      1. Sareeta says:

Hello! In the post you say you had 2 Facebook accounts, 2 Twitter, and 2 Pinterest – do you mean you used 6 accounts total? I’m a little confused because you said you only used a couple accounts, not sure if you meant you tried 2 at a time or all 6! Thanks

      2. Johnny says:

2 for each at the same time, 6 in total.

  6. kemikal says:

Do you know if you can use this vps in conjunction with scrapebox as long as we use private proxies?

    1. massplanner says:

I haven’t tested it with scrapebox, however you have full control over it, you can use it with anything you want as long as it doesn’t need too many resources as the specs for it aren’t that powerful. I think it should work yes, depending on how intensive you want to use it.

Also take care about this part “1GB monthly free traffic ( if you go over they will charge you $0.12 per 1Gb which is almost free as well ” Again if you use scrapebox intensively 1Gb will be used pretty quickly though extra traffic is really cheap..

  7. Tess Calina says:

Thank you for this post and I truly appreciate your customer service. To find a resource like this for your customers speak a lot about you. I will try this free VPS next week. How much would this cost if we like to continue after 1 year? Will this work on Mass Planner2 as well? You came up with this just lately and I will be downloading Mass PLanner2 as well. Thank you again and God bless

    1. massplanner says:

Thank you for your kind words Tess, we do like to provide all the best for our Mass Planner users. Not sure how much it costs after the first year, though it shouldn’t be too much as amazon hosting is not that expensive. In any case, after the first year you can just make a new account and get one more year for free.
Yes, it will work with Mass Planner 2 as well as any other programs you want to install there, just keep in mind the server is not that powerful though so don’t overload it.

  8. Muzzy says:

Hi – I installed mass planner on the VPS but only the main mass planner window will open – not Pinterest twitter or Instagram? Any ideas?

    1. massplanner says:

Hi, yes that’s how it works. Just go to the Profile tab and there you will see tabs for Pinteres, Twitter and Instagram, enable them and restart Mass Planner and they will all show up.

  9. Andrew says:

Hi, Are you able to use facebook apps with your service?

    1. massplanner says:

Not sure what you mean by using facebook apps, in what way and for what? This is a service for scheduling posts and keeping your accounts active and growing

  10. Abdur Rakib says:

That’s a very detailed tutorial. This helped me a lot to set up the VPS. Thanks.

  11. Lakeisha says:

Does this VPS only come with 1 IP address, if so is there a way to change the IP? Also can you use these VPS for selling on amazon etc…. Thanks

    1. massplanner says:

Yes, it only comes with 1 IP, there might be a way to change it as amazon is selling this service if you want to upgrade, you might need to pay more though, haven’t looked into that. As for using it, you can use it to do anything you want, you have complete control

That might not be the right private key, maybe you saved something else, just go back to that step and do it again.

    2. Dennis says:

      Hey Johnny,
Thanks for this post. The tutorial is so detailed! I had no idea that you could get Windows VPS for free. Seems like a lot of people will be using it!
      Best,
      Dennis

  15. remoon says:

i couldn’t make an account πŸ™ can any one give me an account ready for use !!!!

    1. Johnny says:

Why, what was the problem? I doubt anyone will give you an account ready for use with their CC info in it πŸ™‚

  16. Clifton says:

WOW !!! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial! It was extremely easy ! My only confusion was where you said {Next, you will need a password so click the Get Password button. You will now need to provide the Key Pair that you created earlier in order to get your password:
get your amazon vps password Either upload your .pem file or copy its content in the provided field and click decrypt password.} I thought you meant the last file I downloaded {the rdp file } but that was NOT the PEM file I FIRST downloaded,,, the one I named my VPS account with. But after re-reading your instructions I saw where you said the PEM FILE not the RDP file ! So once I uploaded the PEM file it worked PERFECTLY !!! I only wish everything was this easy! NOW where do I find out how to upload the Mass Planner program to my NEW VPS ??? Thanks again for all your help !

    1. Johnny says:

Glad to be of help Clifton, tried to make it as easy to follow as possible.

As for moving the files there, it’s also in the above turorial, section 4, how to use your local drive with the remote connection

  17. ufuk says:

    great explanation, thank you.

  18. jide* says:

. I followed the steps till the end. But at the level of decypting my .pem key, the follwing error occurs:
    Error decrypting your password
Private key must begin with β€œβ€”β€“BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY—–” and end with β€œβ€”β€“END RSA PRIVATE KEY—–”

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, this is the step that some of the people that do this have a problem with. Sometimes amazon give the wrong file, just try again – create and download another .pem fine and usually the second time around it works.

  19. Suman says:

Awesome tutorial! But I am confused at one point still! That is: You have cleared on keeping data available in our PC and VPS at the same time. But how would I copy the files of some small application to keep it running even when I am not connected to it? Because, for sure I need to use that application to work live on some other websites.
I hope you are getting my point.

    1. Johnny says:

Hi Suman, sorry but I don’t follow you, not sure what you mean by small app to keep it running. The VPS will be running 24/7, whatever you set on it, like Mass Planner will run 24/7 all you need to do is connect to it whenever you want to check on it.

  20. Giederius says:

I can’t connect to the VPS. I have done everything like You wrote in the tutorial.. It gives me error about 3 reasons why it could be not working. Here they are : 1.Remote access to the server isn’t enabled. (not sure about that).
    2. The remote computer is turned off. (it’s turned on)
    3. The remote computer is not available on the network. (not sure about that too).

How to check all these things? tried to google but nothing useful actually came up. I really need this to work and You will get another client :))) thank You!

    1. Johnny says:

Really not sure what the problem might be can you try to delete the vps and create a new one, this worked for a few people that had different other problems. If this doesn’t solve it try and ask amazon support for help as I am really not sure what the problem could be.

  21. Peter says:

Thanks for the detailed explanation! How can I check when to upgrade to a bigger VPS? Do I check the CPU credit balance or where do I look at the EC2 Management?
Also, how do I check for traffic volume? I got 1 GB free and no idea how to monitor the volume. Thanks

    1. Johnny says:

Hi Peter, to be honest don’t really know as I haven’t used this for the last 6-7 months. Used it when I created the tutorial and that’s pretty much it. You need to move it when you feel it’s working slow, about the traffic, not sure, they should have something within the control panel showing that.

      1. Peter says:

All right. I have to keep looking. Thanks for the reply though.

      2. Johnny says:

No problem, hope you find out fast!

  22. Maick says:

in this tutorial we will explain that we have to select Microsoft “Windows Server 2012 R2 Base” 64-bit my Computer Main Computer is 32 bits I have to choose the “Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Base” option ???

    1. Johnny says:

Not sure what you wanted to say by that, however it doesn’t matter what your main computer is running, you can select whatever option suits you better on the vps

      1. Maick says:

my computer is 32 bit, if I select the “Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Base” 64-bit option. there is no problem ???

      2. Johnny says:

No there won’t be any problem, you’re good to go.

  23. Azhar says:

Hi! I followed the directions exactly, and I’m no expert. I am having a problem with logging into the VPS. I have windows 10, and whenever I try to log in it tells me “your credentials did not work”. I have no password on my PC, and I’ve tried leaving it blank and putting in previous passwords – nothing works.

    1. Johnny says:

When you’re logging to the vps are you using remote desktop connection, are you entering the username and password that you created? make sure to use the vps credentials and not the amazon services one.

      1. Azhar says:

Sorry, I don’t understand. I am signing in with the remote desktop application. A windows security window opens and tells me to log in, showing me my admin user account on my computer. When I log in though it tells me that the password is incorrect.
How do I find my VPS credentials and not the Amazon ones? This is all new to me, so if you could walk me through it I would appreciate it.

      2. Johnny says:

Did you follow the second step from here, connecting to your VPS : http://www.massplanner.com/full-instructions-get-free-windows-vps-year/#02 ?

As for the password, did you follow what was said in the guide “Next, you will need a password so click the Get Password button. You will now need to provide the Key Pair that you created earlier in order to get your password:”. Just search this text and you will reach the exact step that shows you how to get the vps password.

  24. Umair says:

    one thing i not understand
how they charge if i use more than 1GB traffic i mean to say they info mean about that
and i have visa card with 0$ balance so any warning for me?

    1. Johnny says:

They charge the card, they can’t charge anything else, if you have $0 on your card…well can’t tell you what happens as I’ve never tried it, they might pause your account or not, you’ll have to tell us how that goes if it happens.

  25. alexa says:

Hi there! Awesome tutorial. I have gotten so far as downloading and installing the VPS, downloading the Mass Planner Installer and moving it over to my VPS. But when I click to install the file, it says that the installation package can not be opened and to please contact to confirm it is an authorized microsoft installation package.

Help! I’ve gotten this far… I’m so close! What do you suggest I do next?

    1. Johnny says:

Either install it on your computer and simply move the whole mass planner folder to the vos, or download the files directly from our download page and extract that to the vps

      1. Colin says:

Thanks Johnny, you guys are super helpful! Great product and support

  26. alexa says:

Me again. πŸ™‚ I downloaded and extracted the .zip file in my VPS… can you walk me through how to install massplanner through there? Thanks in advance!

    1. Johnny says:

There’s no need to install them, just extract the files from the .zip archive to anywhere on your computer and run MassPlannerNew.exe

  27. Lousi says:

“if you go over they will charge you $0.12 per 1Gb which is almost free as well ” I used 2 facebook profiles just 3 days and almost 1GB? Do you have any idea how to reduce it? Thank you πŸ™‚

    1. Johnny says:

Well, it totally depends on how you use those two accounts, if you upload big images to a lot of places that might be the problem. Try and reduce the size of the images that you upload and that should help. Download traffic is unlimited, only upload traffic is monitored, so it’s up to what you upload on fb.

    2. ivan hernandez says:

Hello does the software allow you to monitor how much data you are using and how do you do it, thanks

      1. Johnny says:

You shoyld be able to see that info in their online dashboard yes, not sure how as I never did it.

  28. kalada says:

hi please i need help, when am tryin to launch the vps on my system i get an error, when it get to administrator and password, once i put my password it tells me “your credentials did not work, the credetials that were used to connect to 52.46……….. did not work, please enter new credentials” pls what do i do, as this is the tail end of the process

    1. Johnny says:

Are you sure you’re entering the correct password? Did you do the step about the key-pair ? Check again in the tutorial if you did not :

β€œNext, you will need a password so click the Get Password button. You will now need to provide the Key Pair that you created earlier in order to get your password:”. Just search this text and you will reach the exact step that shows you how to get the vps password.

  29. I Gde Widana says:

My Amazon AWS was postponed and I contacted them and they have re- activated my Amazon Web Services account.

Now I have a new problem. I can’t access it via Microsoft remote desktop. What should I do?

    1. Johnny says:

Hmm, that never happened to me, you should check with them again. Make sure the vps is running first though.

  30. Jessi says:

Wow! Great tutorial! I’ve got a question regarding the Location for the VPS. If you live in Europe would it make sense to activate one here in Europe? What do you recommend? Wouldn’t that be better in case you got banned to reactivate your account? Or don’t you recommend European VPSs? Thanks for the tip!

    1. Jessi says:

or a VPS in the US? *

    2. Johnny says:

The location doesn’t really matter, you can choose which location you prefer, as for getting banned, there are no chances of that unless you do something really strange..

  31. Syed Ali Jan says:

Done! Thanks for the tutorial, i want to ask two questions.

    1. how to check the remaining validity of EC2 free vps?
    2. how i check the bandwidth used for a month.. (like they offer 1gb/month) so how i check consumed bandwidth ?

    1. Johnny says:

Both of those should be displayed in your amazon account, not sure where exactly where as I’ve never searched for them, I would check, however I closed the account created a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t gotten around of creating a new one.

  32. Jessi says:

Hey, another question: How many accounts do you think can be run on this vps if I use only Instagram? Can you estimate it?

    1. Jessi says:

PS: Do they only count the upload traffic on those 1gb? are you sure about that?

      1. Jessi says:

ups, another question (sorry): if I only use MP for 2 accounts, do I need a proxy using amazon’s vps?

      2. Johnny says:

Yes, they only count the upload traffic.

And no, for 2 accounts you shouldn’t need a proxy no matter the platform.

    2. Johnny says:

Can’t estimate because it’s not a matter or how many accounts, but how many actions you do at the same time with all of them.

      1. Jessi says:

Hey, let’s say you’re running 2 accounts with all the tasks from liking, following, commenting , posting at the same time, can you estimate if this vps would be capable of it?

      2. Johnny says:

Yes, it should be capable of handling 2 accounts like that.

  33. Jessi says:

Hey, let’s say about 3 accounts running all of the tasks all together, do you think from ur experience that it could handle it?

    1. Johnny says:

It should do ok with 3 accounts as well, yes.

  34. Thomas says:

How do you think this would work with Linkedin? Could I run multiple accounts off of the one VPS?

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, you can definitely do that.

  35. Irene says:

Perfect tutorial! With zero knowledge in vps I almost finished the installation. Amazon showed this message when the installation of the Massplanner started: “Windows installer does not permit installation from a remote desktop connection”. Do you have ideas what’s the problem? Thank you!

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, you should download the installer on the vps and run it from there.

  36. haitham kamal says:

wow amazing thanks you are the best

    1. Johnny says:

      Thank you! πŸ˜‰

  37. GILLES VITU says:

Done ! Excellent tutorial and very easy to follow. πŸ™‚ Thank you. The only problem was β€œyour credentials did not work” after copy-paste the correct password. I had to type it myself.

PS : Do you know what they will charge after 1 year ?

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, I’ve heard that happens sometimes. Not sure after the year, you can just close that account and create another one for another year πŸ™‚

  38. bryan lucero says:

Your service sign-up is almost complete!
Thanks for signing up with Amazon Web Services. Your services may take up to 24 hours to fully activate. If you’re unable to access AWS services after that time, here are a few things you can do to expedite the process:
what do you think? why i have this problem? i followed all though…

    1. Johnny says:

Sorry but this is the first time I hear about this, maybe they wanted to check something from your details or the credit card, did they activate the service after 24 hours?

  39. Irene says:

Regarding “invalid credentials” I had three profiles that were banned on this free vps. One profile was banned after 5 repins, another after 11 and one more after 20. So I would be glad to hear success stories with Amazon VPS. But I guess I would use the paid one. Hope it won’t have these issues.

    1. Johnny says:

When you create one of these Amazon randomly assigns it an ip. That ip was most probably used before but a lot of other people and it largely depends on how they used it. You can use the VPS with no worries just use private proxies as well.

  40. Dung says:

I see you have two plan price? Any lifetime package?

    1. Johnny says:

No, there are no lifetime packages.

  41. george says:

I can’t seem to install on my windows BPS it’s saying an error that this installation package cannot be open contact application vendor to verify that is a valid windows installer package

    1. Johnny says:

Sometimes that happens, not sure why , here’s how to solve it. Download the files instead of the installed, unzip them on the VPS and it will work the same as installing it.

  42. Jessi says:

Hey, do you really think you can create another account after that one year using the same credit card and number but with a different email? do you have any experience with that?

    1. Johnny says:

Hi Jessi, honestly I haven’t tried that, but I doubt you will be able to create another account with the same credit card, most probably you will need another card to use for the second year.

  43. Teold says:

Hi, when i started the virtual machine and windows it require username and password but is incorrect

    1. Johnny says:

The username for that is always Administrator, the password is the one you created.

      1. Richard says:

I got an error when i tried to launch the VPS and the error’s are
1- Remote Access is not enabled
2- The Remote computer is turned off
3- The remote computer is not available on the network.

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connect to the network, and that remote access is enabled.”

I will be looking forward to your help.

        Thanks

      2. Johnny says:

You probably forgot to actually start the vps, check the instructions again and re-do the step about starting it.

  44. Allar says:

Thank for this post. I now have a free VPS thanks to you πŸ™‚

  45. Travis says:

It’s very detail instruction. Thank you.

  46. Tomek says:

Can’t do it. When clicked at EC2 to create my VPS it’s error like this:
Your service sign-up is almost complete!

Thanks for signing up with Amazon Web Services. Your services may take up to 24 hours to fully activate. If you’re unable to access AWS services after that time, here are a few things you can do to expedite the process:

Make sure you provided all necessary information during signup. Complete your AWS registration.
Check your email to see if you have received any requests for additional information. If you have, please respond to those emails with the information requested.
Verify your credit card information is correct. Also, check your credit card activity to see if there’s a $1 authorization (this is not a charge). You may need to contact your card issuer to approve the authorization.

    1. Johnny says:

Not sure what that’s about as it never happened to me, you might want to try and contact them..

  47. Ognyan Stanoev says:

I can’t open anything in the VPS. It is either super slow or not working.

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, I’ve noticed that with one of the VPS I created some time ago, it’s a problem on their side, I just deleted the instance and created a new one and the second worked a lot better.

  48. John says:

Hello, how can i encrypt the vps to make it fully anonymous? Will amazon be spying on the stuff i do? Thanks

    1. Johnny says:

You can use anonymous proxies, no need to do anything to the vps itself, as for Amazon spying, i really don’t think they have time for that considering how many people are using their servers.

  49. dawid says:

When im on step with instances i have recieved this notification:
We’re transitioning instance IDs and reservation IDs to a longer format

AWS is transitioning instance IDs and reservation IDs to a longer format. The old format is a resource identifier followed by an 8-character string, and the new format is a resource identifier followed by a 17-character string. You have until December 2016 to opt in to the longer format.

If you do not take any action, you will be opted in automatically in December 2016, when all new instance IDs and Reservation IDs will be created with the longer format. Until the deadline, you can opt in and out of the new format as needed. Only newly created resources receive longer IDs; existing resources are unaffected.

Manage your transition to longer instance IDs and reservation IDs with Resource ID length management, and read more about the new format.”

and my instance state is terminated… what i should do now?

    1. Johnny says:

Sorry but not sure what to say as it never happened to me, you might want to try and contact them directly about this.

  50. dawid says:

how do you think i can run there massplanner and HITLEAP? withou any charges?

    1. Johnny says:

if it’s not eating too much memory, yes they should be ok.

  51. Francis Alisson says:

Isso foi excelente pessoal. Γ“timo trabalho.

En: This was excellent staff. Great job.

  52. dawid says:

Can i run 10 instagram accounts on this vps without any charges? They will be only liking, following and unfollowing nothing else (they wont post anything), how do you think?

    1. Johnny says:

yes, that should be perfectly fine.

  53. Jules says:

Absolutely spot on instructions and advice! Worked perfectly and super quick!

    1. Johnny says:

Glad to hear that ! πŸ™‚ enjoy your new VPS

  54. Max says:

I hardly ever leave comments, but WOW, this was a fantastic, super useful, very detailed and accurate tutorial. Thank you so much.

    1. Johnny says:

Thank you for the appreciation, considering how many comments this article has I’d say a lot of people are thinking the same thing πŸ™‚

  55. Sebin Thomas says:

Great tutorial indeed. I’m moving from free vps to iwstack, so I want to backup and restore all my campaigns, accounts etc. The cache folder size is around 1.6 GB, is it important to move that folder? Or can I just login again and generate cookies.

    1. Johnny says:

If you’re reffering to the BrowserCookies folder, yes, you can skip it and it will re-create it when it logs in to each account.

  56. Martins says:

Awesome tutorial, it worked like a charm, now am enjoying free one year VPS. Thanks

  57. Terry says:

Johnny, I have got the point to get the password download Remote Desktop file. It
keeps asking for my login to administrator password. I have changed Microsoft password three times and it does not work. Do I have to restart my computer to make the password work? Can I close all my tabs and restart the computer and start from where I left off installing my VPS? Also I can not locate my pem file there was a slight clitch when I downloaded it. I have searched my whole hard drive. I have not found it, Thanks

    1. Johnny says:

you get the password from the pem file, so if you don’t have it that’s why it doesn’t work and probably you’re entering the wrong one. Just delete the instance and re-do all the steps to make sure you safe the pem file.

  58. Prasad Niroshan says:

Thank you Thank you very much. . Actually you are a God ! . . 1year Free VPS Thats Unbeliveble. .

  59. Luis Fernando Gomez says:

Hello , do you know how many facebook accounts could support this vps ? 10 ? twenty ?

    1. Johnny says:

It highly depends on how many actions you do with each account, if you start all the tools and do a lot, or just post 1-2 times a day and do nothing. With a moderate load it should be ok with 5-10 accounts.

  60. Rob Cubbon says:

“Enter you password under Administrator and click ok. ” on the Remote Desktop Connection. What’s the password? I didn’t get that bit???

    1. Johnny says:

You skipped the previous step where you decoded the .pem file to get the password.

  61. Rex says:

amazingly spot on, i tried it some months ago, couldn’t get through the $1 authorization, because my bank kept stopping the transaction, but opened another bank account(separate bank) tried with new mastercard, set at default, just eaisly sailed through, stats>> Download speed 41mb/s upload speed 10.5mb/s. thanks johnny

    1. Rex says:

      *edit upload speed 19.5mb/s

    2. Johnny says:

glad to hear it helped !

  62. Michael says:

Excellent article, just set mine up let see what it can do!, on another note, I keep getting a lot of error 168 on facebook posts, were can I contact support about this as I cannot seem to find anything in the program?

    1. Johnny says:

dashboard – contact support or via the contact for on this site.

  63. Deante Section says:

CAn you recommend anything faster. This vps is so slow for me.

    1. Johnny says:

Sometimes that’s an error on their part, it should work decently. If it’s really slow even with almost no usage. Delete the instance and create a new one ( make sure to backup everything before deleting it though). See if that helps. For free I am afraid this is as good as it gets…there are better but they are paid.

  64. Renal Yordan says:

Please Help me I got difficulties

    1. Johnny says:

Read the article carefully, it’s all explained in detail, if you have any errors you might also want to ask amazon support about that, as they are the most qualified to help with that.

  65. Roberto says:

Thanks for a so useful post. I followed all your steps until the end. The only trouble is installing Mass Planner 2 on AWS. After a double click on the installer, I see that this version is not installable. Look at this screenshot on http://postimg.org/image/6e1aiy3o1/. Thanks and Regards

    1. Johnny says:

Haven’t seen that before, try getting the files from the download page and not the installer, extract them to the vps and run the executable.

      1. Roberto says:

This has been the right solution Johnny. Thanks. It is working now, even if it is very slow this Microsoft Server 2012 R2 in free version on AWS..

  66. Roberto says:

I really don’t know why Mass Planner is often requiring this manual operation http://postimg.org/image/5znu9rb4h/. This is a limit in my case. Do you know why? Thanks

    1. Johnny says:

Mass Planner doesn’t. It’s windows related, you might have added admin permission only to some files. Right click the following files in the massplanner folder and add them admin rights : MassPlannerNew.exe, MassPlannerNew.ControlCenter.exe , MassPlannerNew.Browser.ExternalEx.exe and MassPlannerNew.Updater.exe

      1. Roberto says:

Many thanks. Very good instructions. I’m working now πŸ˜‰

  67. @sophiekateloves says:

Thank you SO MUCH for this SUPER helpful, super easy to follow blog post.

This has solved so many of my issues and the steps , whilst taking a while, are really very well explained and well worth the time if you need MP running 24/7 and your own PC is compromised, like mine currently is.

Discovering this post made my day – yet again thanks Johnny and the awesome team at Mass Planner for once again making my life easier πŸ™‚ Kind regards, @SophieKateLoves

    1. Johnny says:

Glad to be of help Sophie, and I am also glad that after almost one and a half years after I wrote this tutorial it’s still accurate and helping people πŸ™‚

  68. @sophiekateloves says:

Yes Johnny all your prompts and screen shots still correlate perfectly with the steps through the Amazon AWS site, so I’m happy to say that it is all still timely, up-to-date, easy to follow and super helpful. I’m Day 3 into running MP on my new VPN and I haven’t looked back. It’s been the most wonderful discovery so again thanks πŸ™‚

  69. Dragon says:

    Warning
You may not be able to connect to this instance as ports 3389 may need to be open in order to be accessible. Your current security groups don’t have ports 3389 open.

for the last step,it showed this, and i can’t connect to the vps.

    any ideas?

    1. Johnny says:

hmm, not really, never had this problem, it looks like the port used to connect to the VPS is closed for some reason, try looking into that and see what the problem might be.

  70. Temo says:

Hi. Do I need Proxy Service with VPS?. Is it necessary ? Thanks

    1. Johnny says:

Depends on how many accounts you have, if you have more than 4-5 accounts for each platform, yes you need proxies.

  71. Roberto says:

Hi, I have been using MassPlanner since 15th May installed on AWS. In May about $1 of extra costs….in June $29….Do I need to schedule when to make working the instance? I believed to be able to spend nothing or few dollars. Thanks

    1. Roberto says:

I have used MassPlanner until now with some Instagram functions as auto-like, auto-back following, auto-follow and auto-unfollow of users. Never stopped it. Costs were under control but in 2 days thet grew up

    2. Johnny says:

Hi Roberto, this is supposed to be used as a free VPS, if the costs rise like that stop it and move to a cheaper one as amazon is not exactly a cheap windows vps.

  72. David blessing says:

Thanks for this tutorial it has helped me alot

  73. Petter says:

Hi i have used it for almost a year now, amazon notify me of the expiry period.
Was wondering, if i stop my current instance before the expiry date, am i allowed to create a new instance (with free tier) and get to try that new instance for another 1 year?
Or do they recognise my email/ip address etc and disallow me to try another free vps for another year?

    1. Johnny says:

I doubt they will let you do that. You will need to create a new account with a different email/address/credit card. Also make sure to backup all the mass planner details before your close the old account.

  74. Benoit says:

Hi Johnny, I have been using Amazon free vps since May but I was really surprised to get an invoice of around 15$ for the month of June. I just have massplanner running configured on my VPN (follows anf likes on instagram and retweet on twitter). How is it possible that my free limits have been busted? They also estimate than next month, I will be billed arounf 13$. Finally, this VPS is not that free…

    1. Johnny says:

Hi Benoit, I did write in the article that it is free within the limits imposed by them. If you go over the bandwidth limit they will charge you extra. Though $15 is quite a lot, not sure what you have running there that used all that traffic. Check to see what’s creating all that traffic, stop it or move it to a paid vps because Amazon can get quite expensive if you pay for the traffic used.

  75. David says:

Thanks so much for creating this guide! Really thorough, and incredibly easy to follow.

  76. Alopatha says:

Why is it that when i stop my home connection the vps disconnect. I taught is suppose to run 247 even though am not connected to the internet. Pls clarify.

    1. Johnny says:

Vps disconnects, but that is only the connection between your computer and the vps – the vps itself still runs though.

  77. Alopatha says:

So which means even though i disconnect my home connections does the massplaner still does his normal job in the vps.

    1. Johnny says:

yes, the vps runs 24/7 and massplanner will do the same.

  78. Jean says:

Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I’ve installed the VPS and Massplaner on it but when I open it I can’t find my SN profiles. The account is empty.

    Thank you,

    1. Johnny says:

All accounts are kept locally on the computer you install MP to, there’s nothing online, so if you want to move to another computer, you need to move the installation from your computer to the vps, contact our support team if you’re having problems with this step.

  79. Fabian says:

Hi Jonny, thank you for your very good lead through this set up process. I must have lost it somewhere. I set up everything as you described, but can’t log in now. I don’t know the password for the Admin they request on login. I only have the account Password for the general aws account. Where do I get die Admin password from?

    1. Johnny says:

You get that password from the pem file you downloaded, just check the instruction again because you probably skipped that part.

  80. Cris says:

Hello, very nice tutorial thanks , I could say that characteristics should have the vps if I want to use 50 accounts . Thank you

    1. Johnny says:

For 50 accounts you will need something more powerful, with at least 2-3 gb of ram..

  81. Rob says:

What a great tutorial Johnny! Thanks a lot! I have some questions, I hope you can answer them all πŸ™‚

    1. So I’m planning to have 1 account running each on facebook, twitter and instagram. For facebook, Im implementing this (http://www.massplanner.com/how-to-post-to-facebook-groups-without-getting-penalized/). For twitter, i’ll implement this (http://www.massplanner.com/twitter-marketing-from-zero-to-hero-with-mass-planner/), for instagram i’ll be doing this (http://www.massplanner.com/promote-your-business-on-instagram-like-a-pro-with-mass-planner/)… So if that 3 social media running everyday based on the respective guides, do you think I’ll not exceed the free limit?

    2. How do you measure the 1Gb traffic pls? Is evertime someone clicks the links on my posts will result to traffic being measured? Please explain.

Again, thanks for this tutorial πŸ™‚

    Cheers,
    Rob

    1. Johnny says:

      Hi Rob,

      1. It should work perfectly with just one account for each platform
      2. Only the upload from the VPS is measured, so if you upload big images that will count them most, but again with 1 account of each you should be quite under the limit. I think they show how much you have left in their dashboad, I have never checked though.

      1. Rob says:

alright! Thanks Jhonny! Just got my free vps now! thanks for the cool tutorial πŸ™‚

  82. Elliot fox says:

Hello, is it possible to run my mass planner on two different via services, one Amazon and another on a paid search server?
Also I would like to know the maximum number of IG accounts to run on free Amazon vps?

    1. Johnny says:

One license can be run on only 1 computer, if you want to run it on 2 different computers you need 2 licenses. As for max ig accounts on the amazon vps, sorry but we haven’t tested that.. so I am not sure, it could works with quite a lot since it’s not using the browser, however take care of how much you upload not to get over the 1gb limit.

  83. Elliot fox says:

Thanks Johnny for your prompt response
Sorry but what’s the cost of two licenses?

    1. Johnny says:

There’s a 15% discount if you get more than one license and all the modules you got will apply to both licenses you don’t need to get them twice. Just cancel your subscription and you can change the number of licenses inside your account.

  84. Elliot fox says:

    OK,
One more question before I hit the road, on your site, the Instagram version of mass planner is said to be unlimited, what does it mean? Does it mean I can run as much as 500 IG accounts with no issues? If not, what is the maximum number of IG accounts I can safely run on the mass planner app?

    1. Johnny says:

You can add as many ig accounts as you want, yes, how many you can actually run depends on how powerful your computer is though πŸ™‚

  85. Philip says:

Hello, Can I use the free vps with up to 12 accounts on massplannner doing only basic tasks of follow/unfollowing without any glitches?

    1. Johnny says:

Yes, it should work for those.

  86. Philip says:

Thanks! Also do you have any videos on using a vps with massplanner plus the best settings for the different platforms?

    1. Johnny says:

A VPS is a computer that is located somewhere else, there’s no difference in using MP on a VPS and using it on your computer, it’s the same thing, you just connect to the vps and use it normally. As for the best settings, that varies a lot depending on a lot of factors, start slow and grow it gradually in time.

  87. Timothy says:

Hello, thanks for the great information on your posts. i have an issue with lagging on the Windows 2012 server. i follow all the steps and got all the Windows SERVER 2012 running but its so slow, even when i chose the 6gb SSD OPTION its still has a 2 second lag when using mouse pointer. have this happened to you. I’m running using my Mac Air and has plenty of space so Im not sure why its slow. i did the speed test in Windows on the VPS and was getting over 450mpbs so I’m confused why window server is slow but the internet speed in milano is fast. thanks for any advice or input

    1. Johnny says:

Are you talking about this vps from amazon, or a different one? It might be slow because it’s low or ram, or you have set too many accounts and concurrent connections, try lowering the concurrent connection number in the settings tab.

  88. Luca Cinacchio says:

Great tutorial. But any hope to see also a tutorial for Linux users, at least the part about how to connect to the VPS after creation? (i can create the VPS using a Windows Vista old notebook where actually i am running Massplanner, but later i would like to control it from my main desktop computer that is running Ubuntu)

    1. Johnny says:

Sorry but I have no experience with Linux, there might be some tutorials online how to connect to a windows VPS, there must a solution..

  89. Mike says:

When switching from a desktop top a VPS do I have to manually input all the profile accounts?

    1. Johnny says:

You can either copy-paste the whole mass planner folder from your desktop to the vps – this way you’ll continue right where you left off. Or export the accounts and import them on the VPS, this way you will have the accounts but need to re-create the campaigns and the rest of the data.

  90. L says:

How do I extract the password from my saved .pem file so I can log-in to my Windows VPS? I’ve made it so far, but can’t log in.

    1. Johnny says:

It’s all in the above article, search for “Get Password button” and you’ll find the info

  91. Julia Martins says:

I have a MAC so I installed the VPS through Amazon. I have the .rdp file on my computer now but when I click on it, there’s a different screen that opens and it’s not like the one showned here. It asks me for USERNAME, PASSWORD and DOMAIN. The username is automatically “Administrator” and when I put my password (the one I got following this tutorial), it appears this following message: “Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify the identity of the computer that you want to connect to. – Try recconecting the Windows-based computer, or contact our administrator”. I don’t know what to do!!!!! Please help, otherwise I will have to cancel my trial because I will not be able to use massplanner. Thank you

    1. Johnny says:

Please contact out support team with the details of the vps and they will help you.

  92. Quietstorm88 says:

Wanted to know let’s say I started off by installing Mass Planner on a free Amazon VPS. How easy would it be or is it even possible if I can switch from Amazon VPS to some other VPS.
    Thanks.

    1. Johnny says:

Quite easy, you just copy-paste the whole mass planner folder to the new vps.

      1. Quietstorm88 says:

Cool. Simpler than I thought. Thanks Johnny πŸ˜‰

  93. Andres Padro del Monte says:

I just want to say THANK YOU for such an amazing tutorial. I feel like really smart after completing it in the first try successfully! You did a great job!

  94. Rachel Pearson says:

Hi, I have installed the VPN and downloaded the .rpd file on my mac but I can’t get it to connect. I have also downloaded the Microsoft Remote Desktop but also can’t connect and I’m not sure how the run together? I am at step 3 above but thats when what I see on my screen no longer matches the tutorial. Any help would be VERY welcome. Thank you.

    1. Johnny says:

MAybe you didn’t install the remote desktop on your mac, it shout work when you double click the rdp file if you did.

      1. Rachel Pearson says:

Hi Jonny, I did everything by the instructions, is there anyone I could talk to/call to to help me with this at all?

      2. Johnny says:

contact our support if you also use mass planner, we don’t actually offer support for this as it’s outside the scope of our support, but if they’re free they might take a look and try to help. What I can say is that I revised this a week ago and updated it and everything worked flawlessly, so it should work for you as well if you’ve done it correctly.

  95. Nottechnical says:

I am totally lost. I just attempted to set up the VPN. I have a Mac. I have a RDC for Mac box that pops up. When I hit connect, I get a box that asks for a password and domain. I don’t know what the domain is. Thought password is one that was created in this process. I then get a message that says “remote desktop connection cannot verify the identify of the computer that you want to connect to.” What step did I miss? Is there someone that can walk me through this? I am not technical and while the directions are helpful, I keep running into problems. From what I understand, this is the easy part of setting up MP. I am wondering if I should just skip the MP all together. Thank you.

    1. Johnny says:

The domain is the ip of the VPS you just created, you should have that info in either an email from them or right there on the dashboard of your amazon account. As for the identity just click ok. if it connects you’re good to go.

  96. Steve says:

I am trying to setup my vps server and it is giving many options – does this work on Windows Server 2016???
    The options are:
    WS 2016 Base
    WS 2016 Base with Containers
    WS 2016 Base Nano
All of these are available on the Free Tier.
Or should I stick with WS 2012 R2 Base like you originally suggested?
    Thanks!

    1. Steve says:

Oh, forgot to ask, does it matter if I am using WIN 7 Home Premium to do the Remote Connection from?

      1. Johnny says:

No, it should work with no problems.

    2. Johnny says:

Stick to what I suggested πŸ™‚

  97. Fattah says:

If i want to use massplanner only for 12 instagram accounts can i just pay the 9.95$ ?

    1. Johnny says:

No, it doesn’t work like that, you can have 2 accounts of each, if you want more, you can either get the premium plan with unlimited accounts for all, or a one time payment extra module, like +8 or +15 accounts for all.

      1. Fattah says:

how much cost the +8 bundle ?

      2. Johnny says:

$15 one time payment .. please use the contact form and ask support about question that do not relate to this post specifically.

  98. Fattah says:

Hello back, i’m planning on using massplanner for 10 ig accounts, do you think i will reach the 1gb limit fast ? If so, do you think i’ll better take another vps than this one ?

    1. Johnny says:

It highly depends on how much you post on each account. If you post a lot and huge images, you might get passed that, if not I think you should be fine.

      1. Fattah says:

I just want to mass follow with the bot, not posting anything

      2. Johnny says:

i see, it should be ok then

  99. BK says:

Is there anyone that can call and walk me through this?? Please!! I’ve paid for it and did everything up to a certain point. But it’s still not connecting and it’s very frustrating. Please can someone call me.

  100. BK says:

OK… ATTENTION ATTENTION.. I previous asked for help because it was not connecting. I figured it out but this step WAS NOT on your tutorial and wanted to know if case you need to add it. 1) The spot where you are trying to connect to your Remote Desktop – and you need to add your IP Address or Domain.. you need to add your IP/Domain from you Amazon VPS NOT YOUR OWN PERSONAL COMPUTER!!! When I changed that, it connected and I was then able to login also with that special password we first created in the Amazon VPS. Then open up internet explorer in the VPS and download Mass Planner (like you would do on a normal PC — **Note, I am ON A MAC) So, now I have MASS PLANNER running on my MAC!!!! I have also set my alarm for 1 year later to uninstall and reinstall that Amazon VPS!

    1. Johnny says:

Glad you figured it out !

  101. Sebastien says:

Awesome tutorial!!! Thanks a ton. Everything works fine…until I try to run MassPlanner. I have a message saying “This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.”

    Any idea what’s going on?
    Thanks!!

    1. Sebastien says:

All good, I figured it out! Thanks again

    2. Johnny says:

Just get the files and not the installer from the download page. Extract the files somewhere on the VPS and run the executable and it will work.

  102. AJ says:

Any idea what might be going on? I set up my VPS about a month, maybe 2 months ago and it started out working perfectly; everything was amazing. All of a sudden, about two weeks ago I notice I’m not able to connect to the VPS. When I launch my VPS it gives me an error saying “Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, the remote PC is turned on and available on the network, and then try again.” When I close and relaunch the RDP program the VPS information is gone. I deleted my instance and made a new one and I also deleted and re-installed the RDP, still nothing. The Microsoft support forum is absolutely zero help. Have you all heard of anyone running into this issue? Also, to note, I haven’t updated to sierraOS, but that shouldn’t matter because the RDP page on Applications says that it should work with OSX 10.9 or higher.

    1. Johnny says:

Sorry, haven’t hear this one before so not sure what to do, restarting/reinstalling the vps didn’t help?

      1. AJ says:

Ah, that’s okay. I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to install SierraOS then. They probably broke some code that prevents me from using it in El Capitan…thanks though!! Otherwise, great tutorial!

  103. Raymond says:

Thanks a lot for the great tutorial! I have installed the VPS properly and work on the remote desktop successfully. But when I copy the whole MP file from my local drive to the VPS, at the stage of around 80%, the VPS suddenly stated that it is out of memory and log me out all of a sudden.

When I use the .rdp to log in again, a black desktop pop out, and then log me out again.

    1. Johnny says:

Probably you used all the hdd as the mp folder can get a little big, try deleting non important things, read this to know what’s important and what not : http://mpsocial.com/t/how-to-safely-move-mass-planner-to-another-computer/38

  104. Onur Iseri says:

Hi, I am trying to setup a system where I can display AWS drive C in my PC without having to access via remote desktop. Why I want to do this is because AWS is relatively slow and I would like to schedule posts through PC and set the planner running on AWS continuosly. Basically I want to access the massplanner installed in AWS via PC. Is it possible to achieve this?

    1. Johnny says:

Hmm, maybe via dropbox, you set the same account on both computers and share the folder with all the posts..

  105. johndee says:

any ideas how to set up the VPN on the vps? so i can run the MP in my local computer via the vpn connection, because the internet is blocked without vpn. and if running more accounts,i think the local computer is more ok.
    Really thanks for ur help.

    1. Johnny says:

sorry but no, I’ve never done it..

  106. Raymond says:

    Hi,

    Sorry for one more question!
I have read over your another great tutorial introducing greencloud vps, and have tried that. Sadly due to I’m located in China, the greencloud vps is much slower here than aws. However, given the the spec for free amazon vps is too low to process my all account.

Can you briefly tell how can I increase the spec?

Again, thanks a lot for your great help!

    1. Johnny says:

Maybe only the connection between you and them is slow, however the vps itself should run with no problems, alternately i’d advise to find another vps, maybe from China if you prefer, as amazon vps is quite expensive when it’s not free

  107. Golan says:

Hi there, I’d like to download MassPlanner however I have a mac.. Therefore I’m following this guide to help me properly run MassPlanner on a mac. I’m trying to open and login to Microsoft Remote Desktop but it keeps saying my password or username is incorrect no matter what I do. What should I do?

    1. Johnny says:

You’re probably not using the correct password. The username is always Administrator and the password is the one that you decript from the pem file. make sure to follow the tutorial exactly and there should be no problems.

  108. Barrett says:

hey there, seriously helpful. crazy intricate, but I’m glad I got through it. HOWEVER, when I open my VPS and click on the Massplanner installer I get an error message saying, “This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.” I’M ALMOST THERE HAHA. But still no cigar. haha. I have tried re-downloading it. Same result. Any ideas of what I can do to install this thing to get started haha? thanks & God bless

    1. Barrett says:

ok so I got it to work. Sharing the Installer file from my mac to my windows on VPS somehow made the installer not work. I followed the steps to allow Internet Explorer, then direct downloaded it onto the VPS Windows & voila! Just in case anyone is encountering the same problem. And now I’m on to the video tutorials! Let’s do this! thanks again, God bless!

  109. Jimmy says:

Is it possible to run mass planner on separate hosting account such as gvo?

    1. Johnny says:

Sry, but no idea what it is. It is possible to run it on any windows vps, not on a hosting.

  110. Sean Fargo says:

When I right click on my downloaded amazon vps .rdp file (which is in my normal mac download folder), I am unable to select edit, so I cannot get the remote connection options to show up… What am I doing wrong?

    1. Sean Fargo says:

      (For Step #4 Above)

    2. Johnny says:

hmmm, not sure, you can copy-paste it to the vps, edit the settings there, then copy it back to your computer.

  111. Rafael Snitch says:

Is it possible to open the amazon vps on your mobile or can we download an app for this? I’m looking something for Android.

  112. Jen says:

I keep getting an error saying “the certificate or associated chain is not valid”. Stuck here. Please help! Thanks.

    1. Johnny says:

At what step are you getting this? So i can better understand where you’re at.

  113. Mike says:

Wow, Thank you very much. the outline was detailed and instructive

    1. Johnny says:

Glad you liked it πŸ™‚ and hope it helped.

  114. bobsh says:

is it going to charge me automatically after 12 months or i can cancel subscribe?

    thanks

    1. Johnny says:

since you entered the CC info yes, it will charge you automatically after 12 months, you just need to set an alarm up to make sure you close it before then.

  115. Tushar says:

Hi Johnny, this post is incredibly detailed, thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I am concerned however, with proceeding with this method. I am planning on managing 5 Twitter accounts, 3 instagram accounts, and 3 facebook groups/accounts. Will AWS be enough for that? You said that this would work for 1-2 accounts per social media, but I’m not sure what to use if I want to manage more. What VPS would you recommend in that case? Thanks in advance!

    1. Johnny says:

It depends on how many actions you do with each of those accounts, it might work though. Since it’s free and it only takes 15-20 minutes to set everything up you can give it a try. If you need a more powerful vps here is our recommendation.

  116. Tim says:

I’m getting the following error on a fresh install.

    ——-
    MassPlannerNew.ControlCenter has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.
    ——-

    https://postimg.org/image/kqf1dmwex/

How can I fix this issue?

    1. Johnny says:

Just close it, it’s a known error for the control center, will be fixed with the next update and it does not interfere in any way with the normal workings of MP

  117. Danny says:

Hi Johnny, thanks for this, I cannot seem to see the Local Drive in my VPS. I have opened Microsoft Remote Desktop just like it says, clicked Edit, created a new folder, and selected it. Can you tell me what else I can try to fix ?

    1. Johnny says:

Try and do it again making sure you haven’t skipped anything, there’s no reason for it not to work, if you’re still encountering problems, can you tell me more about it, are there any errors or any clue to why it might not work?

      1. Danny says:

After connecting and reconnecting a few times, it showed up, but it was creating extra errors by disrupting the permissions on my local disk. I finally had to shut it down, I’ll be using Google Drive or Dropbox from here on.

Also, the whole point of this was to transfer from Amazon to Greencloud, which I hope will be faster. But I’m having trouble connecting to my Greencloud VPS with Microsoft Remote Desktop:

“Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, the remote PC is turned on and available on the network, and then try again.”

Do you have a tutorial available for that? I don’t think I have an RDP file I can import. Thanks for your help.

      2. Johnny says:

For greencloud everything should be quite straightforward, just create a remote desktop connection from your computer, check out the second part of this article.

  118. John says:

what does this vps at amazon cost after one year?

    1. Johnny says:

it costs more than it’s worth so I’d advise you to close it after 1 year and create another one. Make sure to backup all mp files first though.

      1. John says:

Thanks for your answer. A free second year would be great! but can this be discoverd by Amazon eventually? Do I need another creditcard or phone number or something? They have my personal details already then.

      2. Johnny says:

Yes, you will need new everything, details, phone, CC. I know people doing this for over 3 years with no problems, Amazon can’t check for this is you use different info, and they probably don’t care that much anyway..

  119. Denis But says:

that’s what it shows me when i try to launch rdc file from amazon https://snag.gy/yBosH9.jpg , any ideea why is that?

    1. Johnny says:

login to amazon aws and make sure your vps is running and active. Try rebooting if it still doesn’t work.

  120. Volodya says:

    @Johnny
I have few credit cards and phone numbers but I cant change my address. How to get it for 2nd year? Can I skip entering the address part? Or can I just put different address which is not associated with my credit card (but the address of my new credit card is the same like before).

    1. Johnny says:

Change the address a little, I don’t think they will check it, as everything is automatic.

  121. Piter says:

    Hello,
I have couple of websites on Stablehost, and it is shared hosting. Can I install Massplanner on it?

    1. Johnny says:

No, you need a computer/vps/server running windows, stablehost shared hosting is on linux

      1. ali says:

this error is being shown while i try to enter password while startup process ””your credentials didnt work”

  122. James says:

Hey Johnny, can you recommend a stronger VPS that will be guaranteed to work with MP and can handle more accounts? Paid is fine.

  123. JohnB says:

Can I create a second instance on Amazon AWS without paying for it extra?

    1. Johnny says:

I don’t think you can create a second instance on the same account, but you can create another account.
